Entrepreneur of the Year

20 November 2006

Forrester’s George Colony was named Ernst & Young’s U.S. Enterpreneur of the Year in the Services category (http://www.ey.com/global/content.nsf/US/SGM_-_EOY_-_2006_National_Winners).  This is a prestigious award although I must admit that the timing of this award is peculiar.  After 23 years in business, it’s not like Forrester’s exactly a startup nor was 2006 a particularly startling year.  Kudos, therefore, to Forrester marketing.  :)

I also find the reporting in one of the local Boston newspapers to be amusing (http://business.bostonherald.com/businessNews/view.bg?articleid=167975).  “In the early 1990s, the company corrected predicted the emergence of…the home computer.”  Really going out on a limb there!!  :)

All this said, it’s notable that George is still at the helm of Forrester.  Gartner, founded four years earlier, is now on to its fourth CEO (after founder Gideon Gartner came Manny Fernanzez, Michael Fleisher and current CEO Gene Hall).  Then again, Gartner’s 5-6x the size of Forrester.

Jonathan, You left out Gartner’s most dynamic and charismatic CEO of all: William "Bill" Clifford. Who can forget his reign of 10 months in 1998?
