Steal something today.

posted by Ben Shipley

I think the first time I ever saw Christopher Walken was in the Bond film, A View to a Kill. His foibled, stilted approach has made me a lifetime fan of his work and when I saw the video above, it reminded me of the difference delivery can make to a creative idea.

Often we focus on the need to come up with a brand new idea that has never been done before, forgetting that a great delivery can make an old idea brand new.

Picasso once said, bad artists copy, good artists steal.

The essence of this, at least to my mind, is that if you copy great and elegant solutions, they will always come off as lackluster, an approximation of greatness at best.

If you steal the idea, you make it your own. You capture the essence and re-purpose it as something that unmistakably belongs to you (or your client)

Go out and look for ideas that you love, stuff that works. Steal indiscriminately and own it like Christopher Walken owns Pokerface.
