Now there's a post title for the search engines! What is it about being locked in a big lump of metal at 35,000 feet that makes you thankful for a connection to the world back down below?

Boeing, I'm experiencing my first in-flight WiFi (second, actually - this is the return trip), so naturally taking the opportunity to make a high-altitude post. You gotta have something to tell the grandchildren haven't you? I can just imagine the conversation in 50 years time:
Me: I remember the first time I made a blog post from an aeroplane, Jimmy!
Jimmy: What's a blog, Grandad?A few thoughts:
- Why is it that I don't mind paying around £14 for 24 hours access on a plane, but resent paying £10 in the hotel?
- Some cunning marketing by Boeing - you can have 1, 2, 3 or 24 hours. On a 12 hour flight, which would you choose?
- Why haven't they blocked Skype? If I was AIRCOM I'd be doing a deal with them, because I'll be waving my $5.90 per minute in-seat phone charges bye-bye pretty soon.
Unfortunately the connection seems to be up and down as frequently as the bloke sitting next to me at the moment, so let's hope this makes it through.
