Combining marketing and technology to develop new markets and grow existing ones

Umbria speaks, but are they listening?

Umbria is one of the many consumer-generated media monitoring and analysis companies that I have promoted in presentations and workshops, so it's great to see them start blogging themselves.

Their first post shows that they have some useful stuff to say.

How odd though that they do not invite comments or trackbacks. You would think that a company that a) monitors blogs for a business and b) calls their blog Umbria Speaks would know that conversations are two-way.

Let's give them the benefit of the doubt and hope they invite comments soon so we can start asking questions about their methodology and how exactly they decide whether I am a Boomer, a Gen X or a Gen Y.

You might also ask how they determine a website is a blog. Looks like they scan LiveJournal and Blogger at least. I looked through their website and could find nothing about either.

Thanks for the heads up, Niall.  I've just received their report snapshot and it's interesting to see how they can track "favourability" (positive and negative comments) around certain keywords.

Like you, I would like to ask them one or two questions.  Or, indeed, request a free demo. :-)

Are you sure this isn't just a place to post a press release?  And the header is all about gasoline prices?  I'm not sure this is a blog or just a place to pontificate about their service for CNN.
