At times it can seem that the only people thinking about corporate blogging are corporate bloggers, but the
latest CIO Jury from
Silicon.com demonstrates that IT directors are talking about them too.
The jurors' verdict, m'lud, boils down to this:
"Corporate blogs can be a useful communication and collaboration tool but businesses need to approach them with caution"
Almost to a man (no female CIOs on this particular jury, so don't expect a fair trial), they talk about how to control, censor and moderate what people are saying on corporate blogs, whether internal or external.
I really do understand why IT functions need to err on the side of caution most of the time but when are they going to realise that unless they ease their 'command and control' philosophy, their marketing and employee communications teams are simply going to bypass them?
Anyhow, some interesting insight into what your IT department might be considering.
