Birth. School. Metallica. Death.

So I was at a Wolfmother gig in Brixton last night. Stood behind a guy with the kind of studded leather jacket you don't see so often anymore.

He had his life penned out on the back of his jacket:

'Birth'

'School'

'Metallica'

'Death'

This wasn't a kid mind you. This was a full-blown adult.

Where does 'work' fit into his equation? Or 'wife and kids'? Or 'mortgage'? I guess somewhere between Metallica and Death.

I bet this guy works for a large civil service department. I'm sure he does a good job. But will he ever be 'engaged' by his employer?

Doubt it. How can work ever compete with Metallica? Does it matter? Not really. There are some people we will never reach.
