Elvis and blogs set to take over the world

This planet's going to be a crazy place to live in 10 years' time.

If you believe the numbers social media is due to take over the world. As you may know Technorati is currently tracking about 60 million blogs. (By the way don't miss my colleague Leo's interview with the Technorati founder David Sifry).

While the doubling of the blogosphere has slowed a bit – only doubling every 236 days or so now – there are still 100,000 blogs being created every day.

When Elvis Presley died in 1977 he had 150 impersonators in the United States. Now, there are 85,000. Intriguingly, that means one in every 3,400 Americans is an Elvis impersonator.

More disturbingly, if Elvis impersonators continue multiplying at the same rate, they will account for a third of the world’s population by 2019.

I can't wait.
