My First Few Days On Second Life

I finally did it, I jumped in to Second Life to see what everyone is talking about.  I've spent a few days this past weekend surfing between Second Life and actually surfing on what may be one of the last hot days in Sydney before winter comes.  Already I can see how addictive SL can be and how real the social reality of it all can be.  After logging in and having to pick only a handful of styles and looks you land on a groovy island that starts you off on learning how to do various thing in SL - pick up stuff, take off clothes, etc.  My first task that I took on was trying to find some clothes so I wouldn't look like such a newbie.  People were very helpful and telling me where to go and what to buy.  One lady from London even escorted me to some "free stuff."

One of the most fun things to do was clicking on the "fly" button and flying around the islands and places I found.  I easily figured out how to teleport to some destinations and i did laugh when i wound up in some 80's dance club and figured out how to dance, and being called a "dancing machine" brought back some funny memories.

One of the reasons I wanted to check out Second Life was to see what some clients are up to on SL.  So I visited the adidas store and Coca Cola island which had a few people in each.  I saw a few people where their adidas gear which was weird when I first saw it (and then i was jealous).  I also headed over to the National Basketball Association (NBA) new home and really had some fun there, it was the first place that seemed to have some fun interactive components too it (beyond the numerous dance clubs I found).

I'll be keeping an eye and flying around Second Life given the growing amount of new members to the world and the new brands that are making new homes there.  Anyone working in the marketing world should at least have a visit to see what everyone is talking about, or at least to see what it's like to fly.
