Ass vertising? What is the advertising world coming to?

We all have read statistics about how many ads a person is exposed to each day, how ad avoidance is increasing and the credibility factor of advertising in general.  What you may not have noticed are the many places ads are now showing up.  From ads in subway tunnels to ads on employee t-shirts and of course ads in crop circles and not to mention ads on golf cart wheels too!  And this one talks about a company using, help me now, ass-vertising.  Are we getting closer to the world depicted in the movie Minority Report?  Or will consumers (and cities) just start getting fed up and will more of the world do what San Paulo did recently and removed all of their billboard advertising?

I can't help but think that people are smarter than all of this - when they see ads in random places they think, hey, that's an ad in a random place?  I guess that's why more marketers are now turning to more of the marketing mix, where company messages can be delivered by credible experts, surveys, smart websites, funny MPEGs, podcasts, MySpace, blogs or direct to consumers, just to name a few.  It's so much more fun to be working in PR these days! :-)
