Proving that there still are new ideas out there, the good folks at Kentucky Friend Chicken have launched a crazy new viral video and CSR effort around the companys new Teriyaki Boneless Wings. Being from Kentucky I am always watching what the Colonel is up to, and he is going extra hip by teaming up with a funky mural artist named Phil Hansen who uses his hands and feet and some tasty Teriyaki sauce to create a one-of-a-kind visual.
KFC has been aiming for the youth market for years now, and introducing a new menu offering in this style definitely speaks in the right language and uses the right medium (video) to make a solid connection. And they get nice bonus points for auctioning off the mural on eBay soon to raise funds for the Colonel’s Scholars program that raises money for college scholarships. Sometimes campaigns like this aren't about driving media coverage, they are actually more of what PR campaigns are doing these days - doing direct to consumers to build buzz and excitement (good ol' word-of-mouth).
And special Kentucky plug, go here to sign a petition to get the Colonel on a US stamp - finger lickin' good!
