Is Musical Theater Street Marketing 4 U? Check Out This Video

I'm a huge fan of impromptu anything, making a scene, having fun with friends in the middle of strangers around you.  When I was in high school my best friend Tracy and I would act out the scene from The Breakfast Club in restaurants, when Judd Nelson says to Molly Ringwald "You Are A ***," which starts off a 10 minute fight, which in our version would have Tracy throwing something at me and storming out of the restaurant.  It was so much fun watching people around you react, and then try to make me feel better or call me a jerk when she left.

So I'd like to think someone from the group "Improv Everywhere" was in that restaurant, and was inspired to create this amazing group of people who all love and thrive in the fun side of things.  They recently pulled off a real life musical set in a food court in Los Angeles, which centers around the search for a napkin, with about 15 actors all part of the singing sensation. Of course the reactions of people in the impromptu theater in the round are amazing, and definitely worth the price of admission.

Next time your client asks you for something, here it comes, "out of the box", try having a conversation around street theater, using this as a great example of how fun it can be.  The key would be to find places with a big group of people to watch - think subway car or people waiting in line for a train/bus or a sports arena at halftime - but with the right setting, the right product and right storyline, there will soon be magic in the air.

Judging by the confused reaction of the "audience", I'm not entirely sure this was successful. But you are right - with the right setting, storyline and product I could see how this could appeal to some companies.
