I'm a big fan of the use of big and strong visuals, as well as companies who go that extra mile to create something that you just don't see everyday and that entertains the fans they are targeting. The good folks at Papa Johns, headquarted in my home state of Kentucky, announced this week something that definitely deserves highlight.
To introduce the company's new whole-wheat pizza crust, Papa Johns worked with revolutionary earth artist Stan Herd to bring this announcement to a larger stage. And to see it all you need to do is fly in to Denver between now and November (or whenever the first snow hits the city) and check it out from above. A pizza fit for a giant is ready for its close-up, showcasing pepperonis (red mulch), green peppers (corn stalks), black olives (black mulch) and cheese (harvested wheat) and a little shout out of the brand in the corner.
The smart people at Papa Johns picked this location on purpose - lots of people will be flying in to Denver for the upcoming Democratic Convention as well as the nice open fields around Denver's new airport. Beside the pizza the words "America's Choice" provide a nice reference to those flyers.
There are a few things missing from this campaign that could help to bring it more to life. For one I'd love to see a "making of" speed-up video of the crop circle creation in action. It also would have been great if Papa Johns had worked with Google Earth to ensure the site has updated photos of this area so those of us not heading to Denver can do our own flyby. And something that may be in the works, will slices of the pizza be removed every week or so to keep the conversation going a bit?
