Top websites today versus 3 years ago

A short one today but one that definitely will have you thinking about how fast the world can change in just three years.  The gang over at Forbes recently had a look at the most visited sites today and compared them to the most visited sites just three years ago.  A few highlights:

  • number 16 now - facebook; then - paypal
  • number 11 now - amazon; then apple (which now is #10)
  • number 6 now - youtube; then ebay
  • number 5 now - AOL with 91 million visitors; then, AOL with 74 million visitors
  • number 3 now - MSN with 99 million visitors, then, MSN with 91 million visitors
  • number 2 now - Yahoo! with 117 million visitors, then Microsoft wtih 92 million visitors
  • number 1 now - Google with 123 million visitors (which was #4 three years ago with 76 million visitors), then Yahoo! with 98 million visitors
Just a simple reminder on how fast things can change as well as how much of a lead MSN, AOL and Yahoo! had a few years back and how quickly Google has jumped ahead of the pack.  Three years from now, hmm. . .
