Working on a proposal last night, it struck me (again) that the simplest thing any organisation can do to become more accessible to hardcore bloggers is to add an RSS feed to everything.
The new products page. The newsroom. The change log. Everything.
Note, I didn't say this was the most valuable thing an organisation can do to become accessible. Usually, that would be creating and executing a sound blogging strategy which puts really live people out front. (Novel concept.)
But the simplest thing is adding the feeds — and sometimes the simplest steps are those that should come first.
Yes, we know only a minority of internet users favour RSS, but that minority also tend to be the most active and influential bloggers. What's more, active and influential bloggers also tend to be hungry for information from the handful of organisations that fit squarely in their areas of interest. If they want to know about your new products, they'll subscribe to your new products feed — and have more opportunities than before to write about them as they're released.
