Getting results in PR & digital communication

Ethics & digital PR: what should we discuss?

On March 13, I'm leading a breakfast seminar and workshop on ethics in digital PR.

(It will be a busy day in which I'm also on an ad-tech panel on the broader topic of digital PR in general.)

If you'd like to see any particular ethical principles or dilemmas discussed in the morning session, please let me know. Likewise, if you can point me to additional case studies that illustrate any of these points.

At this stage, the principles I'm planning to explore include:

  • When participating in communities, identify yourself and anyone you represent
  • Work within clear parameters agreed to with your client
  • Only take on projects you have the ability to execute
  • Before moderating comments, draft a reasonable comment policy, announce it to all users and apply it impartially
  • Respect the privacy and contact preferences of individuals
  • When using online services, adhere to their terms of use
