Pintrest brandjacking

For those of you who made it along to our D2 event last month, you’ll recall we discussed the incredibly rapid growth of Pintrest as a platform. The site is currently raising $120 million to fund international expansion, which means we’re expecting to see a big jump in the old problem of brandjacking.

Even if it’s too soon for you to decide whether your company wants to build a presence on Pintrest yet, it is well worth ‘reserving’ your brand space there anyway. Even if you don’t want to actively pin at the moment, to beat the cybersquatters you could simply post a hello message with a URL back to your main site for the time being, and at least you won’t have problems claiming it later.

While I’m at it, here are a couple of pintrest hits which amused me when I searched for ‘Energy saving’. Happy Friday.

Pintrest: Vinyl switch

Pintrest: Martyr lightbulb

Pintrest: Energy efficient baking

Shower time

Getting soaked by Saturday afternoon’s downpour minutes after a much-deserved cut and blow dry made me reflect that I haven’t had to carry my trusty Cath Kidston umbrella around in my handbag for months. There really hasn’t been that much rain lately. With water companies warning about impending hose pipe bans and a new water meter installed in our house, my husband has put a timer in our shower.

It’s not pretty – sorry Thames Water, but I would rather have one that looked like this:

… but it really is effective. Four minutes is just not long enough for a comfortable, slow awakening or hair wash session. So, I plan to change my behaviour and see if it works. For the next month, I will get in my baby’s bath with her and wash my hair then, and keep my morning showers within the prescribed four minutes. It might make all the difference – watch this space.
