Power of the mind

Following a serious car accident in 2004, Zara Roberts suffered a traumatic brain injury that left her unable to walk or talk. Her family were told she had a two million to one chance of survival, but despite all the odds, Zara began to recover slowly from her injuries and started to rebuild her life.

She had always wanted to work with children and even though she continued to have difficulty with her speech and memory, she undertook and passed a Supporting Teaching and Learning NVQ course.  Zara is now living her dream and working with children with special needs at a school in Wrexham.

This is just one of the deeply moving and inspiring stories I heard at the City & Guilds Lion Awards held in London this week.  Zara was awarded the Outstanding Achiever of the Year Award along with many others who had amazing stories of personal achievement to tell.   Powerful stuff.
