‘Tis the season…
… and we are jolly fa la la la la la la la la
Having successfully avoided some post-office Christmas party vomitting on the tube (rest assured, neither the Christmas party nor the vomit was ours), we’re embracing the festive season and are positively brimming over with goodwill. There are many things to love about the mid-winter celebrations of your choice – true, there are some years when it’s all a bit miserable and the best thing about it is that the year is almost done and there’s a whole new fresh one around the corner. For those moments, this song’s perfect . Maybe not one for decking the tree though.
Anyhoo, more musical interludes later. I know, contain yourself. Firstly, a couple of other things that we love about this time of year…
#2: Food. A bit generic but there’s a lot to choose from … Christmas Cake, mince pies, gingerbread, Christmas pudding… ok, not so much the Christmas pudding. The list goes on. Currently we’re mostly eating Christmas Cake and Lebkuchen – super-yum. The joy of this time of year in this hemisphere is that the food is all about keeping us going in the harsh winter. Proper solid stuff. And of course Christmas Dinner itself … we’re with Delia on this: goosefat for the roast potatoes. The only time when roasties beat mash. Fact.
#3: Christmas songs. From angelic choirboys to Mariah Carey, what’s not to love? Ok, yes, the blatant consumerism of dodgy remakes but apart from that. For shivers down the spine, it’s O Holy Night - ok, maybe not that version. And you can’t beat a bit of Dean or the Boss. Pass the eggnog.
