Creativity in Public Relations

Last week the world’s largest inflatable tennis ball (an unofficial claim, although i can’t imagine another one in existence) made its debut in Melbourne on the famous Yarra River which runs through downtown of Australia’s 2nd largest city.  This buzz-generating ball made its debut as part of a campaign to raise awareness and excitement for Sony Ericsson’s “Night Tennis” event happening in Melbourne next month.  The ball was more than 6 meters (nearly 20 feet) high and wide and was lit to create a glow-in-the-dark brilliance as seen in the photo connected to the fast-acting world of night tennis where people play tennis in a club under ultra-violet lights.  Best to check out the site to see the videos to really get an idea of what this is all about.

I’ve been lucky to work with an amazing group of people from Sony Ericsson and H&K on the public relations side of this event which is happening in Melbourne mid-January 2008.  I’m not going to give too much away about the event and the related activities around it just yet.  A full wrap-up post-event will be coming soon.  Just wanted to share some of the fun as it is happening, a good example (if I do say so myself) of a great way to use visuals to bring to life a campaign that creates good word-of-mouth and solid media coverage.
